Sustainability Fair

sustainability+website.jpgJoin me Friday the 12th for a FREE and fun event. This 8th Annual Sustainability & Repair Fair brings a great group of folks together at the Garden Home Library in SW Portland. Lots of earth friendly products and information. You can even get your toaster fixed while you visit with vendors. Note: You can bring up to 2 items for repairs but they ask for a heads up. Click here for the Repair Fair registry. This event is so popular they now have to hold it in the adjacent gymnasium to accommodate everyone. And that’s a good thing! 5 to 7:30 pm. Corner of Oleson & Garden Home Rd. See you then!

FALL … A Clear Favorite!

Fall Canopy – Portland      JG

Fall is officially here and most of us couldn’t be happier. Autumn is, in fact, THE most popular season of our nation. A Gallup poll done a few years ago ranked it number one with Summer coming in 2nd, Spring 3rd and Winter 4th. This is the time of year when I remind everyone (myself included) about the power of letting go. Whether it’s stuff in your space, weight on your heart or things in your head – letting go brings clearer energy and renewed strength. Like leaves that release from their branches, Nature shows us that it is the letting go that allows for new growth to happen. So, use this natural energy to help you remove and restore on all levels. It’s SO worth it!

Watch here for favorite tips on getting clear this season.

Keeping Your Cool

Another record breaking heat wave … seems like a good time to share this keeping cool tip again!

A Clear Place

IMG_20170904_114339Temps are climbing to 100 degrees today, pollution levels are high and our long hot summer continues to test people’s patience and wellness. Here’s one way to help keep both you and your space calm and cool. Use a blend of lavender, lemon and peppermint essential oils in your diffuser. This combination aids in purifying the air, lifting your spirits and balancing energies. You can add more or less of any one of the oils depending on your preference (easy on the lemon as it’s more astringent). For even better results, place the diffuser next to your fan for greater dispersement! No diffuser yet? Add the oils to sea salt and place a handful in the corner of your shower to dissolve while you shower. Or toss the salt blend in tepid water for a foot soak. TIP: Make your oils go further. Fill the empty bottle with spring water…

Stuff du jour

I can’t believe it’s been 8 years since I wrote this post. Still good info to pass along. Happy Turkey Day!

A Clear Place

stuffed shelfQ: What does this bookshelf and a turkey have in common? A: They are both stuffed!  O.K. that was corny but you get the point.  We all love our books which is why they tend to get out of control.  When I tell clients to go thru their books and only keep the top ten the common reaction is a gasp followed by a look of disbelief.  How dare I!  But when they actually DO the sorting out process – they reap the rewards.  And here are just a few of those:

  • You get more space and a fresher look.
  • You find books you forgot you had.
  • You gain a clearer picture of what really interests you NOW.
  • You discover great second hand gifts.
  • Reconnect with the library. Both for reading new books and for donating your old ones.

Note: You can ease into the letting go process by starting with a stuffed book…

What’s Behind YOUR Dryer?

IMG_20170517_132211You’re looking at what I found behind the dryer in my new apartment. Yep. A collection from the former tenant of stuff that went astray. At least nothing had legs. (I’ve heard some pretty scary stories involving bones and antennas.) Keeping it clear around appliances is an often overlooked task. Do your space – and your energy bill – a favor. Put time on your calendar to check and clean these hidden areas at least twice a year. Use a vacuum nozzle or microfiber brush to remove dust and lint build-up behind and under your washer/dryer. And, of course, empty the lint tray after every use. Clean ducts annually.  In the kitchen, pull that fridge out and vacuum the coils. Wash the floor and wall before sliding back in place. If you can’t move the stove, at least pull out the bottom storage drawer (if your model has one) and clean the newly exposed area that way. It’s a hassle well worth the effort. And who knows? You might unearth a long lost treasure. Ready to clean some more? Here are some easy tips on cleaning the inside of appliances (including the garbage disposal) worth a look: Washington Post. Okay – one last favorite item on laundry that’s good to know anytime of the year. Read my tip on this easy energy saver!
